A peptidomimetic designed to remove fat tissue by cutting off its blood supply rather than by changing appetite or metabolism. It homes to prohibitin, a protein displayed on the blood vessels that feed white fat, and once bound it triggers those vessel cells to self-destruct, so the fat they served is starved and resorbed. In rhesus monkeys it produced rapid, substantial fat loss and improved insulin sensitivity within weeks, and it is studied as a targeted approach to obesity that works on the tissue itself.
