An eleven-amino-acid peptide taken from a small helix of erythropoietin (EPO) and engineered to activate EPO's tissue-protective receptor without the red-blood-cell effects that make EPO itself unsuitable for long-term use. That receptor sits on nerve, immune and vascular cells and, when triggered, dampens inflammation and supports repair. It is best known from trials in small-fibre neuropathy — the nerve damage behind burning pain in sarcoidosis and diabetes — where it improved nerve-fibre density and pain scores. It is also studied for wound healing and metabolic inflammation.
