A three-amino-acid fragment (lysine-proline-valine) from the tail of alpha-MSH that keeps the parent hormone's anti-inflammatory power without its effect on pigmentation. It enters cells directly and switches off NF-κB, the master inflammatory signal, reducing the cytokines that drive tissue damage. It is studied most in gut inflammation — colitis and inflammatory bowel disease models — and in skin conditions and wound healing, and is valued for acting locally with a very simple structure.
