A modified form of insulin-like growth factor 1 with a thirteen-amino-acid extension and a single substitution that stops it binding to the proteins that normally sequester IGF-1 in the blood. The result is an active life of around twenty to thirty hours instead of a few minutes, and a much stronger effect per dose. IGF-1 drives cell growth and proliferation, protein synthesis and glucose uptake, and LR3 is studied for muscle growth — including muscle hyperplasia, the formation of new fibres — and recovery.
